Classic Ohio


ESPN Classic will celebrate Ohio sports with a two-day tribute on Saturday and Sunday. We'll bring you some of the greatest games featuring Ohio State, Dayton, the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Classic Ohio will conclude on Sunday at 7 p.m. with a unique documentary on legendary Ohio State coach Woody Hayes. Here's the schedule:

Saturday, July 21

Noon - 7 p.m. - Classic Ohio

Noon - 1997 Rose Bowl
Arizona State vs. Ohio State

A Joe Germaine-to-David Boston touchdown with 19 seconds remaining gives the Buckeyes a 20-17 victory over the Jake Plummer-led Sun Devils.

2 p.m. - 1984 NCAA West Regional Semifinal
Dayton vs. Washington

Roosevelt Chapman's 22 points and stifling defense on Washington's Detlef Schrempf, leads the Dayton Flyers to an upset of the No. 15 Huskies 64-58.

4 p.m. - SportsCentury: Jack Nicklaus

5 p.m. - 1997 ALCS, Game 6
Cleveland Indians @ Baltimore Orioles

A Tony Fernandez solo HR in the 11th inning gives the Indians a 1-0 victory over the Orioles. The win gives the Indians a 4-2 series win and sends them to the World Series.

Sunday, July 22

Noon - 7:30 p.m. - Classic Ohio (cont.)

Noon - 1989 Eastern Conference 1st Round, Game 4
Chicago Bulls @ Cleveland Cavaliers

Michael Jordan's 50 points are not enough as Larry Nance's 27 points pace the Cavaliers to a 108-105 overtime victory, evening the series at two games apiece.

2 p.m. - 1993 Holiday Bowl Ohio State vs. BYU
Raymont Harris sets Holiday Bowl records with 235 yards and 39 carries and scores on three short runs to lift No. 11 Ohio State to a 28-21 victory.

4 p.m. - 1999 Browns Yearbook

4:30 p.m. - 1995 World Series, Game 3
Atlanta Braves @ Cleveland Indians

Cleveland wins 7-6 in 11 innings as Eddie Murray singles home the winning run in the first World Series game played in Cleveland since 1954.

6:30 p.m. - 1969 Rose Bowl
Ohio State vs. USC

Down 10-0 early in the game, top-ranked OSU recovers to beat second-ranked USC 27-16, despite Heisman winner O.J. Simpson's 80-yard TD run. Ohio State wins the national championship.

7:30 p.m. - Reel Classics:
"Woody Hayes, Football Coach"

A unique documentary on Hayes produced by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) that offers a sense of Hayes' sometimes controversial attitude towards the game as well as his contributions to it.
