Marty Schottenheimer will interview with the San Diego Chargers for their head-coaching position and is a serious candidate for the job, according to team sources.

Schottenheimer, who was fired Sunday night as coach of the Washington Redskins, likely will meet with Chargers general manager John Butler and president Dean Spanos this week.

Butler made the arrangements through Schottenheimer's agent, Tom Condon.

The Chargers have had several discussions with Bill Parcells about becoming their coach, but Parcells should be named head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by next week.

Chargers offensive coordinator Norv Turner interviewed with Butler on Monday.

Jets defensive coordinator Ted Cottrell also will interview with the Chargers, who fired Mike Riley shortly after the team finished a 5-11 season. In 2000, the Chargers were 1-15.
