At Atlantic City, N.J. -- Francois Botha, 232, Newport Beach, Calif., drew with Shannon Briggs, 230, Brooklyn, N.Y., 10, heavyweights; Marco Antonio Barrera recorded a unanimous 12-round decision over Pastor Maurin, junior featherweights.

At Miami -- Gabriel Ruelas, Mexico, won a unanimous decision over Jose "Cacique" Rodriguez, Miami, 10, super featherweights.

At Le Cannet, France -- Acelino Freitas, Brazil, stopped Anatoly Alexandrov, Russia, 1, to capture the WBO super-featherweight title; Stefano Zoff, Italy, outpointed Julien Lorcy, France, 12, to win the WBA lightweight title.

At Dagenham, England -- Johnny Nelson stopped Willard Lewis after four rounds to retain the WBO cruiserweight title

At Las Vegas -- Rafael Ruelas won a 10-round split decision over Hicket Lau, junior welterweights.

At Anaheim, Calif. -- Guty Espadas stopped Frangky Mamuaya in the first round, featherweights; Israel Vazquez stopped Nelson Medina in the seventh round, super bantamweights.

Friday, Aug. 13
At Mashantucket, Conn. (ESPN2 Friday Night Fights) -- Mark Johnson, Washington, won a unanimous decision over Jorge Lacierva, Mexico, after eight rounds to retain his IBF junior bantamweight title; John Brown won a 10-round unanimous decision over Francisco Cruz, lightweights; Ray Austin won a four-round decision over Grant Cudjoe, heavyweights; Luis Perez won a six-round unanimous decision over Lionel Odom, bantamweights.

At Chester, W. Va. (ESPN2 Friday Night Fights) -- Paul Spadafora won a 12-round unanimous decision over Israel "Pito" Cardona to win the IBF lightweight title; Robert Frazier and Robert West fought to a draw, junior middleweights.

At San Antonio, Texas -- Tony Ayala Jr scored a third-round TKO over Manuel Esparza, junior middleweights.
