Dorin postpones November title defense

Associated Press

MONTREAL -- WBA lightweight champion Leonard Dorin broke his arm in a cycling accident, forcing him to postpone a planned title defense.

Dorin was cycling recently with his family when the accident occurred, said Jacques Theriault, a spokesman for Dorin's promoter, Interbox.

"It's a little fracture of the arm," Theriault said. "He probably won't be available to fight until January."

Dorin was scheduled for a title defense in November. While no opponent or date had been confirmed, the mandatory opponent would be WBA No. 1 contender Miguel Callist of Panama.

Dorin, undefeated in 21 professional fights, beat Raul Balbi on Jan. 5 for the WBA title. He successfully defended it in a May 31 rematch.

A former amateur champion, Dorin left Romania for Canada in 1998 to fight for Interbox.
