Joe Frazier's daughter takes control early

Associated Press

NORFOLK, Va. -- Jacqui Frazier-Lyde stopped Heidi Hartmann in the third round of a super middleweight bout Saturday night.

Frazier-Lyde, the 40-year-old daughter of former heavyweight champion Joe Frazier, improved to 9-1 with the victory. The fight was on the undercard of the Larry Holmes-Eric "Butterbean'' Esch fight.

Frazier-Lyde dominated the German from the start, tagging her in the head with a hard right just seconds after the opening bell rang.

In the third, she staggered Hartmann (2-1-1) with an overhand right and then connected on three more punches, knocking her to the canvas. As she fell, referee Joe Cooper stepped in to stop it at 50 seconds of the round.

The fight was scheduled for 10 rounds.
