Dusenberry sentenced to 10+ years in prison

Associated Press

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The former president of USA Boxing pleaded guilty to sex abuse charges Wednesday and was sentenced to more than 10 years in prison.

Jerry Dusenberry, 62, pleaded guilty in Multnomah County Circuit Court to criminal conduct with four separate victims, said Sgt. Brian Schmautz, a Portland police spokesman.

Portland police began their investigation in 2001, when a mother of an 8-year-old said her child may have been molested by Dusenberry.

Dusenberry had contact with thousands of children because he had worked with many Portland-area youth groups as a volunteer and employee since 1959.

Dusenberry was elected president of USA Boxing, the organization that governs Olympic-style boxing in the United States, in 1992 and headed the organization through the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.

Dusenberry, a longtime member of the U.S. Olympic Committee, was a vice president of USA Boxing from 1988 until 1992 and was the United States' lone referee-judge at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992.

He served as a world bureau referee-judge in the International Amateur Boxing Association since 1975, officiating all levels of competition, as well as serving as team manager and ringside manager for numerous competitions.
