LOS ANGELES -- Promoter Bob Arum was concerned how heavy world light heavyweight champion Roy Jones Jr. would weigh in at Friday's sparsely attended weigh-in at the ABC Entertainment Center in Century City. Maybe the high-rise parking prices that go along with the buildings in this neck of the woods kept some media types away, but there was a collective sigh of relief when Jones scaled in at 173 pounds. Top Rank's spokesman Lee Samuels said they had been unable to weigh Jones Thursday night at the media center at the Wilshire Grand Hotel in downtown L.A. because Jones was staying at an undisclosed location. His challenger, Julio Gonzalez, was weighed Thursday night and Friday and came in at 174¼ pounds. He weighed in before the champion, and after the usual stare-down pics, the two stars of Saturday night's main event at Staples Center fled with their entourages for the nearest food outlets. Other weigh-in results: World Boxing Association welterweight champion Andrew "Six Heads Lewis" drew admiring gasps when he disrobed and weighed in at a ripped 147 pounds. Challenger Ricardo Mayorga weighed in at 146¾. World Boxing Council featherweight champion Erik Morales weighed in at 126 pounds and his opponent, Injin Chi, at 125½. In the oddest weigh-in of all, a statuesque Mia St. John weighed in at 128½ pounds and then her opponent, a compact Imelda "Chiquita" Arias, checked in at 129½. Arias' 8-12 record is bolstered by eight KOs, but she has lost her last seven fights. The Roy Jones-Julio Gonzalez fight will be a pay-per-view event beginning at 6 p.m. PT.
