ATLANTA -- A restaurant bankrolled by heavyweight boxer Evander Holyfield is down for the count. Fulton County marshals served eviction papers Wednesday for Holyfield's New South Grill north of Atlanta. Chef and general manager John Akhile had not paid rent in three months, said Thomas Jorgensen, the building's property manager. Holyfield was a primary investor in the restaurant, which opened in April 1999. He was in Sydney, Australia, for the Olympic Games on Wednesday and could not be reached for comment. "We never had the business" despite community involvement and demographics showing people in the area ate out often, Akhile said. Donna Gathers, executive director of the Sandy Springs Business Association, said the restaurant was set between two office towers, making it difficult for potential customers to find. |
