Ibeabuchi awaits Dec. 9 hearing, too

Associated Press

LAS VEGAS -- Heavyweight contender Ike Ibeabuchi will go to trial Feb. 22 on charges he assaulted an escort service employee at a Las Vegas Strip hotel.

Ibeabuchi, who is on house arrest following his Nov. 19 release on $750,000 bail, had originally been scheduled for trial next week. The date was postponed Monday after his attorney requested a continuance.

Ibeabuchi, who is undefeated in 20 professional fights, was arrested in July after a woman sent to his room by an escort service claimed he sexually assaulted her.

District Judge Joseph Bonaventure also scheduled a Dec. 9 hearing to consider whether prosecutors can tell jurors of other similar allegations against the boxer.

The additional allegations include three other sexual assaults in Las Vegas and Arizona, two involving outcall dancers. No charges have been filed in connection with the other alleged incidents.

Ibeabuchi's attorney, Richard Wright, said he needed extra time to prepare for trial so the other allegations could be investigated.

Under conditions of his house arrest, Ibeabuchi surrendered his passport and agreed not to contact any escort services. Wright said Ibeabuchi would continue to train while on house arrest.
