FSU, Texas have four of 12 Lombardi semifinalists

HOUSTON -- Second-ranked Florida State and No. 10 Texas each have two linemen among the 12 semifinalists announced Friday for the 2000 Rotary Lombardi Award.

FSU defensive end Jamal Reynolds has 10 sacks this season.
Florida State defensive ends Jamal Reynolds and Roland Seymour join Texas offensive tackle Leonard Davis and defensive tackle Casey Hampton. Eight other schools have one representative each.

The other semifinalists are Florida defensive end Alex Brown, Wisconsin defensive tackle Wendell Bryant, California defensive end Andre Carter, Minnesota center Ben Hamilton, Stanford defensive tackle Willie Howard, Michigan offensive guard Steve Hutchinson, Nebraska center Dominic Raiola and Texas Christian defensive end Aaron Schobel.

The annual award goes to the top college lineman or linebacker who, in the opinion of nearly 300 voting writers, broadcasters and coaches, best exemplifies the characteristics and discipline of Vince Lombardi.

The list of semifinalists will be trimmed to four Nov. 4, with the winner of the granite-block trophy announced Dec. 6 at a banquet in Houston.
