Friday, December 13, 2002 Heisman race wide open in 2000 By Gary Danielson Special to BCSfootball.com
"I think the Heisman race in 2000 is going to completely depend on which team does the best. All the preseason candidates -- like Drew Brees, who has a tremendous opportunity because Purdue plays Michigan and Ohio State at home this year -- will be tough to knock off the list if their teams win. It could go all the way down to guys like Marques Tuiasosopo if Washington has a tremendous season or Deuce McAllister if Mississippi comes up big in the SEC. There are players all over the country that could figure in this race if their team has a magical season. Otherwise, the current leader in the clubhouse will go wire-to-wire, and that player is Drew Brees."
